Evacuation orders are in place for parts of Sydney after persistent heavy rain continues to lash the city and surrounds with no immediate signs of abating.

Residents in parts of Camden, in the city's southwest, have been given until 6 pm to leave their homes safely.
Earlier today, evacuation orders were issued for Chipping Norton in the city’s southwest, and Bonnet Bay and Woronora in the Sutherland Shire in Sydney's south.
There are three major river systems at play in the areas which have been, or are being, evacuated:
The Nepean River, which flows through Camden, has already reached major flood levels, as we told you this morning. Its headwaters rise just west of the escarpment above Wollongong, not too far from Darkes Forest, which had the highest rainfall total in NSW overnight (207 mm). Check the latest flood warning here.

The Woronora River flows briefly northwards from Sydney's southern outskirts to join the Georges River close to where it empties out into Botany Bay. The suburbs of Woronora and Bonnet Bay sit alongside its banks.

And the Georges River is in flood in Sydney's southwest. The suburb of Chipping Norton sits on a low-lying tongue of land, encircled on three sides by the river. Minor to major flood warnings are in place for both the Woronora and Georges River.
Other Sydney Rivers are also flooding, including the Cooks River in Sydney's inner south and inner southwest.
With moisture-laden cloud still streaming towards Sydney from the coast, we urge all Sydney residents of low-lying suburbs to keep an eye on the official Bureau of Meteorology warnings.
Sydney city received 114.8 mm of rain this morning, with a further 30 mm during Thursday before 5 pm. Similar daytime readings were registered across the city, with the heaviest NSW rain in the Wollongong area.
