Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Victoria TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Cancellation Of Severe Weather Warning for East Gippsland, North East and West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts. Issued at 2:59 am Saturday, 17 January 2026. Winds have eased over alpine peaks Weather Situation A low pressure system is situated off the southern NSW coast and a large slow moving high pressure system is well to the south of Victoria. This is resulting in strong east to southeasterly winds over parts of the state, although winds are no longer expected to be severe over alpine peaks. cancellation of severe weather warning for the following areas: East Gippsland, North East and West and South Gippsland This warning is now cancelled. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live. * Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
