Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Cancellation Of Severe Weather Warning for Peninsula Forecast District. Issued at 7:44 am Sunday, 11 January 2026. Damaging winds have now eased across the Torres Strait and northern Peninsula. Weather Situation A burst of monsoonal westerlies moved through the Torres Strait and northern Cape York Peninsula overnight, but conditions have now eased and are expected to remain below severe thresholds. cancellation of severe weather warning for the following areas: Peninsula This warning is now cancelled. A separate Severe Weather Warning and forecast track map associated with Tropical Cyclone Koji is current for people in the northeast tropical coast. Several flood watches and warnings are also current for large parts of Queensland. Please refer to https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts Emergency services advise people to: * Never drive, walk, play or ride through floodwater. It is dangerous. * Stay away from storm water drains. * Stay away from fallen powerlines. * Drive slowly and never drive through floodwaters. If the road is flooded or damaged, go another way. * For storm help, call the SES on 132 500 or download the free SES Assistance QLD app. No further warnings will be issued for this event.
