Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Heatwave Warning Issued at 02:22 PM EST on Wednesday 14 January 2026 Valid for Wednesday 14 January 2026 to Saturday 17 January 2026 Warning for the following areas: North Tropical Coast and Tablelands Cancellation for the following areas: Gulf Country Safety Advice: Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. Over the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands maximum temperatures in the high twenties over elevated parts with overnight minimum temperatures in the high teens to low twenties. Along coastal parts maximum temperatures increasing to the low to mid thirties with overnight minimum temperatures in the mid twenties. Severe heatwave conditions have eased over the Gulf Country with maximum temperatures in the low to mid thirties and overnight minimum temperatures in the mid twenties. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to ease over the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands later in the week. Locations likely to be impacted include Cooktown and Wujal Wujal. The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3:00pm EST on Thursday 15 January 2026
