Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Flood Warning For The Diamantina River Issued at 11:16 AM AEST on Wednesday 14 January 2026 Flood Warning Number: 22 FLOOD LEVELS REMAIN ABOVE THE SPRINGVALE DIAMANTINA LAKES ROAD CAUSEWAY Recent heavy rainfall has caused river level rises and flooding across the Diamantina River catchment and its upper tributaries. Moderate flooding is occurring at Diamantina Lakes, where a major flood peak was observed during Sunday morning. This peak is continuing to move downstream along the Diamantina River. Further rainfall is forecast across parts of the Diamantina River catchment from this week as Ex-Tropical Cyclone Koji moves towards northwest Queensland. This rainfall may result in further river and creek level rises. This situation is being closely monitored, and this warning will be updated as required. A Flood Watch is current for the Gulf Country and parts of Western Queensland and the Cape York Peninsula, which includes the Diamantina and Western Rivers. Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes: The Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes is at 5.63 m and easing slowly, above the level of the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road Causeway (2.10 m). Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes: River level rises are occurring along the lower Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads. Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.
