Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Final Flood Warning For The Haughton River Issued at 08:00 AM AEST on Monday 09 March 2026 Flood Warning Number: 4 FLOODING NO LONGER EXPECTED AT GIRU Moderate rainfall has been observed across the Haughton catchment since Friday morning. A moderate peak was observed observed on late Saturday afternoon, and levels dropped below the minor level early Sunday morning. A peak below minor following renewed rises was observed along the Haughton River at Giru on Sunday evening, with river levels having fallen further below the minor level into Monday morning. Further rainfall is expected over the next few days which may contribute to renewed river levels rises. The situation is being monitored and warnings will be issued if required. A Flood Watch is current for most of Queensland. Haughton River: Flooding is no longer expected along the Haughton River at Giru. The Haughton River at Giru is currently at 1.13 m and falling, below the minor flood level. The Haughton River at Giru is expected to remain below the minor flood level (1.80 m). Further rises are possible with forecast rain. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads. Check the ABC and local media for updates.
