Alpine forecast

Great spring conditions will give way to a trough and cold front on the weekend, with showers and gusty winds ahead of it on Saturday. The showers should start giving way to snow on Sunday, with snow likely on Monday. Freezing overnight temperatures following the front will keep the pack hardened until at least mid-next week, especially in the mornings.

Skies should be clearer later next week, then during the second week of the coming fortnight it should be pretty typical spring conditions, with some snow, rain, cloud, sun, and a softening snowpack.

Warm September night for Tasmania ahead of front

13:25 EST

Tasmania just had a very warm September night, the second night in a row that minimum temperatures across the state were reporting well above average.  Warm air from mainland Australia has filtered down to the southeastern parts of the country, forced further south by strong winds from the interior associated with an approaching cold front.
