While most of the country will be dominated by high pressure over the next few days, a pair of offshore lows will bring a blustery weekend to the east coast.

The first of these lows is associated with the frontal system moving across the southeast responsible for the wintry blast spreading its way east. Winds will begin to increase along the New South Wales coastline from late Friday, with a southerly change making its way north during Saturday morning.

Peak winds are expected to only impact coastal locations, strongest gusts over exposed parts such the Point Perpendicular and Cape St George headlands of Jervis Bay, where gusts of up to 80km/h are possible.

Winds should begin to ease into the early hours of Sunday morning, as the system moves away from Australian mainland and out into the Tasman Sea.

The second of these lows is currently well offshore of the Queensland coast, but is expected to move towards the mainland into the weekend. There is some uncertainty as to the track this system will take, particularly past Saturday, however winds are likely to increase into Saturday evening as it approaches the coast.

Southerly winds will begin to strengthen from the early hours of Saturday morning along much of the QLD coast, although are expected to be strongest north from about Bundaberg to Townsville. At this stage, the strongest winds look to remain offshore.
