Western and southwestern WA is in for another wild couple of days as a frontal system crosses the region over the next 48 hours.

Northerly winds will strengthen this evening, turning westerly into the early hours of Sunday morning. Strongest winds are expected over the southwest of the state where damaging winds are possible, with gusts up to 100km/h. These winds will peak early Sunday, before pushing along the south coast toward Esperance by Monday morning. Further north along the west coast winds exceeding 80km/h are possible Sunday morning, easing during the day.

Heavy rain will accompany this system, with 10-20mm expected along much of the west coast in the 24 hours hours to around midday Sunday. The southwest will see the heaviest rainfall where 25-50mm is possible over the same period. Rain will develop throughout this afternoon with the heaviest falls occurring tonight into early Sunday morning.

Thunderstorms are also possible from late afternoon into the evening tonight, potentially severe over the southwest. Further storms are expected on Sunday although mainly across the southwest.

The system will also bring dangerous conditions along the coast with a severe weather warning in effect for damaging winds, abnormally high tides and damaging surf for South West, Southern Coastal, Lower West and Great Southern districts.
