Welcome rain in parts of WA
Geraldton has seen more rain during the last 24 hours than the last nine months combined.
A strong cold front brought welcome rain to western and southwestern districts of Western Australia on Thursday night and Friday.
Geraldton received 27.6mm during the 12 hours to 9am on Thursday and had picked up another 0.8mm by 5pm on Friday. This exceeds the 20mm of rain Geraldton had recorded during the nine month period from last September to May this year.
Perth also picked up some welcome rain from the frontal system, with 30mm falling in the city during the 24 hours to 5pm on Friday. Last month, Perth only registered 17.8mm during its 2nd driest May on record.
This rain will be backed up by more welcome falls during the next several days as a procession of cold fronts sweep over southwestern Australia.
