Warm long weekend temperatures for the Sydney Basin

Warm long weekend temperatures for the Sydney Basin

A warm pair of days along with mostly sunny conditions will bring great beach and barbeque conditions for Sydneysiders, in an early taste of summertime.

A slow moving low pressure trough gradually pushing eastwards is drawing warm northerly component winds into the Sydney region. The mercury will climb into the high-20s for Sydney’s east, and low-30s for Sydney’s west, for two days straight.

Sunday will see the northerly winds bring a five degrees above average day, 27 degrees celsius for Sydney. Winds will, however, tend more northeasterly across coastal parts, helping bring cooler afternoon temperatures closer to the ocean. Further to the west and away from this seabreeze, the mercury will continue to climb, peaking at 33 and 32 degrees for Penrith and Blacktown respectively.

A combination of increased humidity and persistent northerly winds will help bring a warm, two degrees above average minimum temperature tonight. The final day of the long weekend will be the warmest with temperatures reaching 29 degrees in Sydney and 33 degrees in Blacktown and Penrith, about seven degrees above average.

A drop in temperatures will also be delayed with a cool southerly wind change only reaching the city after sundown on Monday. This cooling event, along with the approach of the low pressure trough, will lead to a string of below average temperature days, along with a chance of showers over the following few days.
