Two active tropical cyclones are a high chance over northern Australian waters on Monday.

While we wait for the tropical low over the Gulf of Carpentaria to become Tropical Cyclone Esther, another rapidly developing low northwest of WA’s Kimberley region may become Tropical Cyclone Ferdinand on Monday.

The tropical low over the Gulf is slowly moving south, and should cross the coast on Monday between Borroloola and Mornington Island. The forecast for what could be Tropical Cyclone Ferdinand is to move in a west-southwest direction over the Timor Sea, becoming a category three system but staying well offshore.

To add more complexity to the activity over northern Australia, what should be Ex-Tropical Cyclone Esther may track west over the base of the Top End and WA’s Kimberley, move offshore and reform into a tropical cyclone. It’s a bit early to be confident that will happen but it’s something to keep an eye on, especially for people living in northwestern WA.
