A trough sitting just off the Queensland coast, and another inland, both of which are being fuelled by onshore winds, has produced some very high rain totals over the past couple of days.

Some places along the Central Coast and central and southern inland are having their best April rain in decades thanks to the moisture-laden troughs. Mackay Met Office collected 90mm to 9am Thursday, and Injune 85mm, which is the heaviest April rain in 30 years for both sites and double the monthly average for Injune.

The Central Highlands and Coalfields didn’t miss out, with Springsure and Lochington both recording 72mm to 9am Thursday, the highest April rain in 13 years and 9 years respectively. Emerald collected a healthy 27mm, the town's best for April in 7 years.

The heaviest falls were around the Central Coast, with many rain gauges recording over 100mm to 9am in the Mackay and Pioneer areas. Over the last four days, Mackay has gained more than 150mm of rain, about its monthly average. The 72mm to 9am Thursday at Mackay Airport was the highest April rain in six years.

The troughs are likely to keep the showers going over the next 24-36 hours, but unfortunately for rain lovers they will weaken and dry up. What will they do though is maintain a high level of humidity well into next week.
