Tropical Low lingers near Christmas Island
A tropical low has brought heavy rain to Christmas Island in recent days, adding to what has already been a very wet month for the island.
On average Christmas Island receives 159.6mm of rain throughout the month of November. It has exceeded that in the last five days alone thanks to a nearby tropical low which has delivered over 230mm of rain so far. It has been an unusually wet November with at least some rain being record on all but two days so far this month. To 9am Sunday, 557.8mm had fallen in November which is over three times the monthly average of 147.7mm.

The tropical low is expected to move away to the south in the coming days. Although this should allow for drier conditions for Christmas Island, showers or storms are forecast each day until at least mid-week. There is some uncertainty between the models regarding how much this system will intensify and it is only a very low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone. Later next week the system is expected to take a more westerly track, taking it further away from the Australian mainland.
