Too humid in Brisbane?

Tristan Meyers
It's been airconditioner's galore over the last few evenings in Brisbane. Nights have been unusually steamy - the previous two nights the minimum didn't drop below 24 degrees. The last time Brisbane had two consecutive nights this hot was 13 months ago. Although the thermometer might read 24 or 25 degrees, it feels at least 3 or 4 degrees warmer than that. This is due to very high humidity - moisture in the air traps the heat during the day, so it lingers around at night. On average, February is the most humid time of year during the day, while January has the stickiest nights. However, January nights this year were cooler than the norm, while this month Brisbane has had more warmer-than-average nights than cooler nights. The spell of warm nights looks to continue until at least this Saturday, when winds tend a bit more southerly. Although it will still be humid, it may be marginally less so, allowing for more cooling in the nights.
