Summery Sydney Weekend
Sydney has had a lacklustre run of weekend weather recently but summer is making its presence felt this weekend.
An approaching low pressure trough is filtering a very hot airmass over much of New South Wales, including the Sydney Basin. On Saturday, a sea breeze will help to regulate temperatures along the coast, keeping temperatures in the high-twenties and low-thirties. The sea breeze will bring increased levels of humidity though, making a feel a couple of degrees warmer than the mercury suggests. The western suburbs of Sydney will not benefit from the cooling sea breezes, with temperatures set to soar into the mid-to-high thirties, including a forecast of 38 degrees in Penrith.
Warmth will linger well into the night, hovering around the mid-twenties at midnight, making for an uncomfortable night's sleep.
On Sunday, north-westerly winds will increase, battling a sea breeze in the east. The north-westerly winds are likely to win out, allowing temperatures throughout the Sydney Basin to reach the mid-thirties. As the trough edges closer on Sunday, showers and storms become an increased risk, and could bring some welcome cooling during the afternoon or evening. There is a chance that storms become severe, with damaging winds the most likely feature.

A cool southerly change will start moving along the southern New South Wales coast during Sunday evening and will reach Sydney on Monday morning. This change is not particularly strong though and is only expected to briefly return daytime temperatures to near average before warmth starts to return from mid-week.
