Springtime warmth is expected across southeast Australia early next week, with all capitals across the southeast expected to reach the 20s on Monday.

Maximum daytime temperature forecasts for Monday include: 

• 26 degrees in Sydney

• 24 degrees in Melbourne

• 26 degrees in Brisbane

• 23 degrees in Adelaide

• 22 degrees in Hobart

• 21 degrees in Canberra

This widespread warmth will be caused by a broad area of northerly winds, which will be present across much of eastern Australia ahead of an approaching cold front. The front will be a slow-moving feature, allowing some capitals to see a period of extended warmth early next week.

Melburnians can expect a pronounced peak in temperatures on Monday ahead of the front followed by dramatically cooler conditions on Tuesday.

Sydneysiders will be treated to a pair of standout warm days on Monday and Tuesday before the front arrives.

In Brisbane, the warm north to northeasterly winds will continue into Wednesday, with temperatures approaching 30 degrees midweek. If temperatures do reach 30 degrees in Brisbane, it will be the first occurrence this spring.
