Brisbane is having one of its wettest Octobers in in recent decades following another weekend of severe storms in southeast Queensland.

Rain and thunderstorms have been a frequent occurrence in southeast Queensland this month, thanks largely to an abundance of moisture in the atmosphere.

Brisbane has already registered rain on 17 out of the first 22 days of this month, which is its highest number of rainy days during October since 2010. The city usually registers nine rain days during October.

Brisbane's running monthly total as of 9am on Monday was 174.2mm, which is the city's highest for October in a decade and its second highest for the month since 1987.

Unsurprisingly, relative humidity has also been running about ten percent above average throughout October in Brisbane, which has also helped fuel the development of rain and storms.

Elsewhere in southeast Queensland, Tewantin (447mm) is already having its wettest October in at least 22 years and Coolangatta (174mm) its wettest since 2010, as of 9am on Monday.

Southeast Queensland will be predominantly dry for the remainder of this week, although there could be some showers or storms on Thursday and again from Sunday.
