Queensland's lowest temperature of the year
It was a cold and frosty start to the week in southern Queensland on Monday morning, with one weather station registering the state's lowest temperature so far this year.
The remnants of an Antarctic air mass lingering over southern Queensland combined with clear skies and relatively light winds on Sunday night, causing the mercury to plummet.
The coldest place in the state was Oakey, which dipped to -3.8 degrees shortly after 6am on Monday. This was the lowest temperature observed anywhere in Queensland so far this year.
Further east, Sunshine Coast Airport reached 2.5 degrees early this morning, which was its lowest temperature in two years.
Temperatures will continue to drop low enough to cause frost over parts of southern Queensland during the next few mornings before nights warm up a bit later in the week.
