Prolonged wet spell for Perth and southwest WA
For the third time this week, the parks and gardens of Perth have enjoyed a day of soaking rainfall that exceeded 10mm, and the good news is there's plenty more to come.
With the exception of Sunday, at least a few drops of rain are probable every day over the next week, with the likelihood of heavier falls in the vicinity of 20mm on each day from next Monday through to Thursday.
Perth’s winter rainy season is always appreciated by locals after the typically dry summer and early autumn period in southwest WA. But this year, the city saw an exceptionally dry start to the year.
- Just 33.6mm accumulated in Perth’s main gauge from January 1 to the end of April, compared to the long-term average of 84.2mm.
- May 2025 was also looking bleak from a rainfall perspective, with just 7.8mm recorded up until May 22.
- But rain on six of the ensuing eight days has brought the running monthly tally to 58mm (the long-term May average is 86.2mm).
Now for a more significant burst of rain.
Perth’s average June rainfall is 127.1mm and it’s conceivable that the city could come close to that total in the first week of the month.

Even during the wet months in southwest WA, it’s common to have a strong high pressure system behind a low pressure system, ushering in a few days of cool, clear weather.
But next week, another low pressure system (below) will be tracking the way of Perth and nearby areas, hot on the heels of the current one, with a weak high pressure system making only a brief appearance between the two lows.
That second low is the one that’s set to deliver significant rainfall totals across a wide area.
