Perth's record early-season morning chill

Perth's record early-season morning chill

If you think the last few mornings in Perth were unusually cold for this time of year, you're not wrong. The city just had its coldest trio of mornings on record for this early in the year.

Cold air combined with clear skies and calm winds allowed the temperature to plummet in Perth during the last three mornings.

With minimums of 5.1 degrees on Saturday, 5.5 degrees on Sunday and 5.7 degrees on Monday, this was Perth's earliest trio of mornings below six degrees on record.

Prior to 2020, the earliest occurrence of three consecutive mornings below six degrees were from May 11th-13th in 1996 and 1914. Temperature observations for Perth are available back to 1897.

Perth's lowest temperature on record during May was 1.3 degrees in 2012 and 1914.
