History tells us that April is generally the end of the Northern Territory wet season, but surprisingly there is still more rain on its way, according to weatherzone.com.au. Some forecast models are predicting as much as 350 millimetres to fall over eastern Arnhem Land during the next week, which has actually been a little dry for April. Nhulunbuy is in fact in its driest April in five years, and one of the driest on record. This coming rain-burst, expected to be heaviest on Thursday and Friday, should change all this. Even if the 300 millimetres doesn't fall, the rain should at least be 100 millimetres. The predicted outbreak comes in the back-end of a surge in storms over the southeast Asia region, a phenomenon which helps to drive much of the monsoonal activity over northern Australia.
