Melbourne's coldest April morning in half a century
Melbourne is having its coldest April morning in 56 years, just 2.9 degrees in the CBD at about 6:35am, when many were struggling to get out of bed. Most Melbourne suburbs also had their coldest April morning in many years with temperatures as much as 10 degrees below the monthly average. Scoresby was 0.3 degrees early this morning, the coldest it's been in April in 50 years of records. Laverton reached 0.4 which is also the lowest for April in 66 years of records. Essendon got as cold as 0.6, the coldest in 41 years of records for April. Viewbank dipped to zero and Cerberus was below freezing for the first time in April in at least 17 years. Those flying out to escape the cold would've had to wait until they got inside the airport terminal. Tullamarine was not spared its coldest April morning in 39 years of records at just 1.2 degrees at about 6:45am. The coldest place in the area was Coldstream, where it was -2.7 degrees at 6:30am. Tomorrow morning will not be nearly as cold due to increasing cloud and a bit more wind. Frost will be restricted to the area east of Melbourne.
