Icy cold nights still a little way off
Brett Dutschke

The start to winter has not been as cold as in previous years as far as nights are concerned in southeastern Australia, according to weatherzone.com.au.
Much of the southeast including Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne is having its warmest June in 17 years, as far as minimum temperatures go. This is mainly due to a lack of strong cold fronts crossing the region this month, so the air has remained relatively warm.
We have not had the cold nights we normally get in June. This is the first time on record that it hasn't cooled below eight degrees in Sydney or five degrees in Melbourne or minus one degree in Canberra.
There have been very few frosts so far, even in rural areas. Rutherglen in northeast Victoria averages 10 frosts in June but has only had two this month, which is good for most farmers.
Nights are getting colder but if the forecasts go to plan these June records will hold.
