Hump day challenge: Rank Australia's capital cities by coldest May temperature

Hump day challenge: Rank Australia's capital cities by coldest May temperature

Australia, you can do this. Or maybe you can't.

The challenge is simple. Rank Australia's eight capital cities by the coldest May temperature ever recorded in each city.

We've also thrown in Alice Springs - the unofficial capital of Central Australia - to make things interesting.

So here are the lowest recorded May temps in the eight capitals (plus Alice Springs), listed from warmest to coldest. But which city recorded which temp?

13.8°C, 4.8°C, 4.4°C, 1.5°C, 1.3°C, -1.1°C, -1.6°C, -3.0°C, -7.5°C

Get to it. Answers are below the picture of the beautiful boatshed on Crater Lake near Cradle Mountain in Tasmania, which we featured in a story about remarkable autumn foliage last week. No cheating now!

OK, here they are:

Darwin 13.8°C
Brisbane 4.8°C
Sydney 4.4°C
Adelaide 1.5°C
Perth 1.3°C
Melbourne -1.1°C
Hobart -1.6°C
Alice Springs -3.0°C
Canberra -7.5°C
