Hottest temperatures in more than a year on the way for southeast Queensland

Jess Miskelly

Brisbane is forecast to reach 36°C on Sunday, which would be its hottest day since October, 2021. Western suburbs around Amberley and Ipswich should exceed 39°C. The last time this happened was over 2 years ago, in December, 2020.

The heat is intensifying thanks to clear skies, westerly winds and the proximity of Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle, as explained here.

Nearby areas of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Capricornia coast will also reach near 40°C on Sunday.

High humidity is going to make it feel even hotter, with feels like temperatures forecast to be well into the forties in many areas.

Heat will abate on Monday as a cooler Gabrielle moves away and a cooler onshore wind change arrives, triggering widespread showers and storms on Tuesday.
