Hottest July day on record in central Australia
Brett Dutschke

Uluru and Giles in central Australia broke July records today as the temperature rose above 30 degrees, 10 higher than the July average.
Giles reached 31 degrees, its hottest July day in more than 50 years of records. Alice Springs reached 29, within three degrees of a record.
This is the time of the year that it normally starts to warm up over northwestern Australia, our country's heat engine. But it has warmed a little quicker than normal over the interior due to frequent fronts crossing WA drawing the warm air from the northwest.
During the last few days temperatures have been nudging the mid 30s in the Kimberley, within a degree or so of July records.
Tomorrow Alice Springs will break a July record if it gets hotter than 31.6.
