Highest winds in years for SA, VIC and NSW

South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales have seen widespread gale force winds that are some of the strongest reported in years.
An intense cold front swept across the Bight during Monday, making landfall along coast of SA during the evening. The Mount Lofty Ranges and the Adelaide Metro area were both hit by gusts of 60-80km/h. Some of the strongest winds during this time were at Mt Crawford, with 109 km/h and Strathalbyn seeing 97 km/h, its highest wind gust in over three years. Later in the evening Robe reported 107 km/h with thunderstorms. That was their highest gust in more than seven years!
As the front moved across VIC during Monday night, there were heavy showers and storms with small hail along the southwest coast. The Melbourne Metro area saw widespread gusts of 70-90 km/h overnight.
The strongest winds recorded during Monday night were through alpine regions. Mt Hotham reported a gust to 131 km/h, its strongest in over a year. while Thredbo saw the highest gust reported from this system so far with 143 km/h, its highest wind in six years!
The system is now sweeping into NSW, with the highest wind gusts occurring through elevated areas.
