Heavy showers hit Gold Coast, more on the way.

Rob Sharpe
Showers have marked the beginning of winter for Queensland's Southeast Coast, with more to come over the weekend. Queensland's south coast experienced a dry May, with the entire Southeast Coast and Brisbane area recording below average rainfall for May. However, the start of June looks to be much wetter. A taste of the weekend's wet weather reached the Gold Coast yesterday with Coolangatta picking up precisely as much rain overnight as it did throughout May, with 46mm. During the night the rain was heavy at times, with 6mm falling in just ten minutes. Most rainfall to 9am this morning fell between Lismore and Coomera, with up to 70mm falling in some places. These heavy showers were due to moist southeasterly winds that have been driving showers onto the coast for the last three days. Today and tomorrow, the southeasterlies will continue to bring a few showers along the coast before rain sets in on Sunday. The rain will arrive with a low pressure trough that is currently bringing rain to central Queensland. Sunday will be quite a cool day with cloud and rain keeping a lid on temperatures. The trough should then move offshore on Monday leaving just the chance of a morning shower. The sun should then come out during the day and remain a feature through much of the working week.
