Frost setting in across NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS

Brett Dutschke
A run of frosty mornings is about to commence across a large part of New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria and Tasmania and in some areas frost will become severe. Those heading out early in the next few mornings will need a few extra layers compared to recent and those jumping in the car may be required to scrape ice off their windscreens. Cold winds in the wake of a succession of strong fronts are drying out and easing rapidly under clearing skies, causing it to cool down rapidly as the sun goes down. For southeastern Australia as a whole, it is looking like the longest run of frosty mornings since last winter. On the Southern Tablelands of NSW, the Cooma area is a chance to chill to about minus five degrees or below for five mornings in a row, Sunday to Thursday. Even on the low-lying plains of NSW and Victoria and in parts of South Australia and southern Queensland, frost is likely on a few mornings. Albury, Horsham and Renmark should all see their first frost of the year. Later in the week, wind and cloud will increase and the airmass will warm up, causing the frost area to contract to the mountain valleys.
