Nathan is the system that never gives up and now is on track to follow the path of Olwyn, bringing soaking rain to Western Australia. Two weeks ago, Severe Tropical Cyclone Olwyn made landfall near Exmouth in WA's northwest. It then tracked south and then southwest across western parts of the state, bringing powerful winds and heavy rainfall. Since the system crashed into the state, conditions have been pretty good for cleaning up the damage. Farmers across the state have also been enjoying plenty of water across the landscape. At the moment there is a weak trough across the state that is producing some small areas of rain and a series of thunderstorms. The trough will weaken as it moves east in the next few days, but there is much more rain to come. Ex-Tropical Cyclone Nathan, which originally formed at the same time as Olwyn in the Coral Sea, is currently moving west, affecting the western Top End and far northern Kimberley. On Monday, the remnants of this system will link up with a trough sitting over WA's west coast, providing plenty of extra moisture. On Monday and Tuesday rain and storms will be fairly widespread across western parts of WA, providing 20-40mm to most parts that were directly impacted by Olwyn, stretching from Exmouth to Geraldton to Esperance. Over the following days, the trough will weaken and linger over central and southeastern WA, triggering further showers and storms to those parts. The extra soaking rain will set up many communities in the northwest very well for the long dry season of winter.
