Emerald walloped by massive storm

Brett Dutschke
Less than a month after major flooding swamped Emerald a huge thunderstorm has hit the town bringing 100 millimetres of rain in about an hour, according to weatherzone.com.au. This is Emerald's heaviest burst of rain in over 12 years. The storm hit just before 6pm today and by 7pm over 100mm of rain had fallen, causing flooding. This storm also produced 82km/h winds, strong enough to bring down trees. This recent burst of heavy rain and strong winds is a worry to some locals who are still cleaning up after last month's major floods. Luckily rivers in the area were below minor flood level before the storm hit. Storms are likely in the area again in the next few days but are less likely to bring as much rain and will become more isolated as the week goes on.
