Brisbane warming up to 2017

Ben Domensino
There will be a warm feeling in the air as Brisbane welcomes in the new year this weekend. A hot air mass sitting over eastern Australia could push the mercury into the mid-thirties in Brisbane on Saturday and Sunday. If the city reaches 34 degrees or higher on both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, it will be the first time this has happened in 60 years. The average maximum temperature for Brisbane at this time of year is 29 to 30 degrees. The warm change of years in store for the state's capital comes as many other parts of Queensland brace for rain and natural fireworks during the next 48 hours. Showers and storms are possible across most other districts of Queensland on Saturday and Sunday. Some of these storms could become severe, with heavy rain bringing a risk of flash flooding.
