Blowing a gale across southeastern Australia
Brett Dutschke

Winds blowing across Tasmania and Victoria today are the strongest in more than two months for many locations including Hobart and Melbourne, according to weatherzone.com.au.
Northwesterlies have been gale-force at times in Melbourne, gusting more than 75km/h at the airport and more than 85km/h at Mt Dandenong, strong enough to cause minor damage. Hobart recorded 80km/h gusts.
The windiest place today has been Mt Wellington in Tasmania where northwesterlies peaked at 117km/h.
The area of strong winds is spreading north through South Australia and New South Wales and Queensland due to an intensifying low near Tasmania. Winds will be at their strongest as they turn westerly behind a cold front gusting 65 km/h or more. Winds will peak tonight in SA and tomorrow in Tasmania, Victoria, NSW and southwest Qld and Saturday in southeast and central QLD. Warnings have been issued.
