Australian snow depth update

Ben Domensino

The latest weekly snow depth at Spencers Creek in the NSW alps was measured on Friday, and spring warmth appears to be getting the better of this season's snowpack.

Snowy Hydro measured 146.6cm of snow at Spencers Creek snow course on Friday September 4th. This is around 20cm lower than last Thursday's depth of 167.8cm, which was the running high point so far this season.

If last week's snow depth ends up being the highest for this season, which is possible, this will be the lowest peak depth in five years.

The highest natural snow depth at Spencers Creek typically occurs in late August or early September. However, this isn't always the case. The peak snow depth in 2016 occurred in early October.
