ANZAC Day forecast
Alex Zadnik

Melbourne and Canberra can expect their coldest ANZAC day weather in years this Wednesday, while northern and western parts of the nation should have more favourable conditions for commemorative activities.
The dawn service in Melbourne is going to be a cold, wet and windy one. For those heading to the Shrine of Remembrance, the temperature will be near 10 degrees at dawn, with a freshening southwesterly wind making it feel a degree or two colder. Frequent and heavy showers are also going to add to the wintry feel in Melbourne on Wednesday morning. There may be a reduction in shower activity during the day, but cold weather and winds will remain in place. The forecast maximum temperature of 17 degrees in Melbourne would make it the coldest ANZAC Day there since 2004, when the temperature only made it to 14.4.
Canberra is in for its coldest ANZAC day since 1956 (which had a maximum of 13.9 degrees) based on the current forecast top of 14 degrees. This is after a brisk start of just 2 degrees for the dawn service. It won't be as wet in Canberra as it will be in Melbourne, but brief showers are expected through the day.
The risk of showers is minimal to the east of the Dividing Range, so Sydney is in for a dry but cool ANZAC Day. After a fresh morning with a minimum of 12 degrees, a top of 20 is expected into the afternoon. Skies should be mostly sunny as crisp, dry westerly winds blow across the Sydney basin.
Brisbane will see showers on Tuesday but thankfully these will clear by Wednesday morning as drier southwest winds sweep into the city behind a cold front. The morning will have a cooler feel to it, with freshening southwest winds making it feel a touch below the forecast minimum of 17 degrees. The afternoon will be mild and dry with a forecast top in the mid 20's.
Showers are possible in Darwin for ANZAC day, both during the early hours of the morning and again into the afternoon. Both minimum and maximum temperatures will be close to average, with a low of 24 degrees in the morning and a high of 33 into the afternoon.
Perth will see a dry and warm ANZAC day with a minimum of 15 degrees and a top of 29. High cloud will increase on Wednesday but dry conditions are expected.
Adelaide may pick up some drizzle through Wednesday, especially during the morning hours. It's also going to be quite cool with a minimum of 9 degrees followed by a top of 19.
Showers will be on the ease for most of Tasmania on ANZAC Day with a clearing expected for both Hobart and Launceston during the morning. Both centres can expect a top of 18 on Wednesday, following single digit minima. Hobart is at greater risk of a shower sticking around for the dawn service, with drier conditions a better chance for Launceston.
