Adelaide's best rain in months, with more on the way

Some welcome rain is spreading over South Australia today, with Adelaide picking up its best drop in a couple of months.

The passage of a decaying cold front has caused rain to sweep over the state from west to east during the last 24 hours.

Parts of the West Coast, Lower Eyre Peninsula, and Kangaroo Island picked up around 10mm of rain during the 24 hours to 9am on Tuesday. For Cape Borda (11mm) and Minnipa (5.6mm), this was the best rain in three months. Ceduna's 10.4mm pushed their running total for August up to 34.4mm, now higher than the entire monthly average of 33.8mm.

Adelaide started to see some rain late on Tuesday morning and had collected 8mm by 2pm. This is the city.s heaviest rain in two months, following one of its driest Julys on record.

Rain will continue to spread over the state's eastern districts this afternoon and evening before moving into NSW and Victoria tonight.

Another round of showers and thunderstorms will develop over southern districts of South Australia on Wednesday, including Adelaide, as a low pressure system moves through the Bight.
