Thick cloud spiralling around Tropical Cyclone Debbie is generating heavy showers on the tropical QLD coast. Cloud across the tropics in a weak monsoon is causing showers and storms. Cloud over the WA interior and western SA along another trough is bringing a few storms.
Evacuations have been ordered in coastal towns and communities in the Whitsundays and Burdekin regions in north Queensland as Tropical Cyclone Debbie bears down, with authorities warning of damaging tidal surges.
