NSW election day weather forecast

NSW election day weather forecast

Many NSW residents will need to take a brolly to the ballot on election day tomorrow, with showers and thunderstorms predicted over large areas of the state.

The 2023 NSW State Election will take place on Saturday, March 25, with millions of residents expected to head down to their local polling place to cast a vote.

Ballots will be bone dry in Bourke and Broken Hill as the sun shines and sausages sizzle across far western NSW.

Skies will be gloomier over the eastern half of NSW though, as moisture-laden winds feed into an inland trough to produce widespread showers and some thunderstorms.

The map below shows where and how much rain is being predicted by one computer model on election day this Saturday. It’s worth noting that much of this rainfall will be convective in nature, meaning wet weather will be patchy across a broad area.

The most likely area to see rain on Saturday will be the state’s coast, ranges and northeast inland. This includes a high chance of wet weather in Sydney, Newcastle, the Central Coast, Wollongong, the Blue Mountains, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie.

While thunderstorms area also a risk over most of eastern NSW this Saturday, the most likely area to see storms will be the northeast quarter of the state, particularly the Northern Tablelands and Northwest Slopes and Plains districts, where severe thunderstorms are likely.
