Coastal Waters Wind Warning
For Northeastern Gulf of Carpentaria waters, north of Weipa.

A slow moving high pressure system [1030 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a firm
ridge along the east Queensland coast. The high is expected to weaken during the
next few days, with the ridge gradually relaxing as a result.
CANCELLED Strong Wind Warning
for Northeast Gulf Waters, north of Weipa
Winds are no longer expected to exceed 26 knots.
Please be aware
Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages given here,
and maximum waves may be up to twice the height.
Tropical Cyclone Alfred has weakened to a tropical low as it begins to make landfall on the Gulf of Carpentaria's southern coast.
Some homes in the community of Borroloola on the Gulf of Carpentaria were evacuated with 74 residents sheltering elsewhere, as they waited for Cyclone Alfred to make landfall about sunrise on Tuesday.
