Coastal Waters Wind Warning
For waters from Torres Strait to Cairns, and also waters from Gladstone to Point
Danger including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay.

Synoptic Situation
A complex low pressure system [1004 hPa] off the northern New South Wales coast
is expected to deepen during today. The associated trough is expected to move
northeast into far southern Queensland waters during this afternoon and evening.
The trough is then expected to shift east over the Coral Sea during the weekend.
Large south to southeasterly waves will affect far southern Queensland waters
during the weekend, resulting in rough surf conditions. A high [1030 hPa] over
the Great Australian Bight will move slowly east during the next few days,
extending a strengthening ridge through much of Queensland.

Double Island Point to Point Danger
Expect west to southwesterly winds to increase to 25 to 30 knots late this
afternoon. Winds will then tend south to southwesterly 25 to 30 knots during
this evening and increase to 30 to 40 knots late tonight and early Saturday.
Seas increasing to 3 metres in open waters this afternoon, reaching 4 metres
late tonight. South to southeasterly swells 1.5 to 2.5 metres developing in open
waters from the south from this afternoon, increasing to 2.5 to 3.5 metres
during Saturday and reaching 4 to 5 metres offshore.
Strong Wind Warning
Torres Strait to Cairns
Expect southeasterly winds to increase to 25 to 30 knots between Lockhart River
and Cairns in the early hours of Saturday, extending north to Torres Strait
during Saturday. Seas increasing to 3 metres outside the reef, and 2.2 metres
inside.
UPDATED Strong Wind Warning
Gladstone to Sandy Cape
Expect south to southwest winds to reach 25 to 30 knots at times offshore during
Saturday morning. Winds are expected to shift south to southeast 25 to 30 knots
offshore during Saturday afternoon. A south to southeasterly swell 1.5 to 2
metres developing during Saturday.
UPDATED Strong Wind Warning
Sandy Cape to Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay
Expect southwesterly winds to increase to 25 to 30 knots from late this evening.
Winds are expected to tend southwest to southeast 25 to 33 knots during Saturday
afternoon. Seas increasing to 3 metres in open waters and reaching 3.5 metres
during Saturday afternoon. S to SE swells 1.5 to 2.5 metres developing in open
waters from late tonight, reaching 4 metres offshore during Saturday.

Moreton Bay waters
Expect west to southwesterly winds to reach 25 to 30 knots from late this
afternoon. Winds will shift south to southwest 25 to 30 knots from late this
evening. Seas increasing to 1.6 metres.
The next warning will be issued by 5 pm AEST.
