Patchy cloud crossing western and central VIC near a low pressure trough is generating a few showers and thunderstorms. Hot, gusty northerlies are filtering ahead of the trough, raising fire danger. Skies are generally clear in the east due to a ridge of high pressure.
Spring was marked by record breaking heat and long dry spells, with only small areas away from that norm.
Several people including babies have been rescued from Lismore Base Hospital in northern New South Wales after the roof of the maternity ward collapsed.
The clean-up is continuing after a severe storm hit the New South Wales North Coast on Sunday afternoon leaving thousands without power and displacing some patients at Lismore Base Hospital.
