Winter fails to release Melbourne from its clutches
Sam Terry

Whilst spring dramatically makes an entrance in NSW and QLD, winter is still clinging to VIC, with cold temperatures a-plenty in this southern state.
Minimum temperatures were significantly above average state-wide thanks to a broad blanket of cloud that still extends from WA all the way to New Zealand.
Conversely, this cloud was the very thing that causing cardigan-worthy temperatures to linger.
Most locations across VIC had a maximum temperature that fell between four to seven degrees below the September norm. Melbourne itself was warmer at midnight than it was at 3pm. Extraordinarily, the city only made it to 13 degrees during the day, the coolest start to Spring since Bob Hawke was Prime Minister.
Rainfall was a key factor in the wintry temperatures, as patchy rain persisted the entire day. Generally totals were less than 10 mm, although there were heavier falls over the Alpine Areas.
To 9am this morning, Weeaproinah picked up 27 mm, the wettest September day in three years. This is an amazing follow-up to August, which was the wettest month on record.
Although tomorrow will be cool, the weekend will bring a more spring-like clime, but with heavy rain following.
