A powerful frontal system will crash across southern Australia across the next six days, bringing intense weather. A deepening low pressure system in the Southern Ocean is currently approaching the southwestern corner of Western Australia, causing wind to increase and showers to develop. The low won't make landfall, but the first of multiple cold fronts and troughs associated with this low will reach Perth on Friday morning, signalling the start of a wild weekend in WA. The low will slowly track across the Great Australian Bight, increasing winds in SA from Saturday and in New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria and Tasmania from Sunday. Wind will be strong at times across a three day period in all of these states, with severe weather warnings for damaging winds highly likely. The coldest air associated with this system will be swept across the southeast of the nation on Tuesday, combining with powerful winds to create an icy blast. Snow will fall to very low levels on Tuesday in SA, VIC and TAS. At this stage parts of each state are likely to see snow below 500 metres, possibly near sea level in western TAS. Conditions will begin to calm in the southeast from Wednesday as a high pressure system takes hold. This will then commence one of the coldest series of mornings for winter.
