Where did it snow today and where will it snow tomorrow?

Where did it snow today and where will it snow tomorrow?

A long-awaited polar blast caused snow to settle in a number towns and paddocks across NSW on Wednesday.

Here's a guide to where it snowed and where it will still be snowing on Thursday.

SOUTHERN NSW

Snow started falling the Alpine regions of NSW and Victoria on Tuesday, with around 5-10cm settling there by this morning.

More fresh flakes hit the slopes throughout Wednesday, with the higher parts of the mountain doing the best as temperatures gradually warmed up. However, there was some snow down to about 700 metres elevation at times on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday evening, about 15-30 cm of snow has accumulated at some of the ski resorts. Cooma and Jindabyne also picked up some snow during the day.

On Thursday, snow will continue to fall above an elevation of about 900 metres in southern NSW, with another 10cm likely in the Alps.

CENTRAL NSW

After a cold and dry start to the day, central western NSW started to see snow during the morning, and it slowly spread towards the Blue Mountains in the middle of the day.

Orange, Balyney, Oberon, Blackheath all saw snow on Wednesday.

More snow is likely to call over the Central Tablelands and parts of the Central West Slopes and Plains above about 800 metres on Wednesday night and Thursday.

There is still potential for some heavy snow during the next 24 hours as the cold polar air lingers over NSW.

NORTHERN NSW

The cold air from this system pushed up into northern NSW during Wednesday and caused snow to fall along the Northern Tablelands, including Guyra and Glen Innes.

Temperatures will stay cold enough for snow to fall above an elevation of around 900 metres during Wednesday night and Thursday. There will be plenty of moisture available for decent snow in northern NSW during this time.

Take care if you're driving through areas of NSW where there is snow or ice on the roads, and check for road closures before you leave.
