Wet outlook for NSW

Alex Krisman
Widespread rainfall is expected later this week for New South Wales and adjacent parts of Victoria, Queensland and South Australia. High levels of tropical moisture will be funneled over the country from the Indian Ocean in strong winds aloft. This will combine with moisture from the Pacific Ocean, producing widespread rainfall. At this stage inland NSW appears to be the focus of the rainfall, with southern Queensland and Victoria also expecting decent totals. Parts of NSW may receive moderate to heavy rain two days in a row, allowing for the moisture to soak in. Coastal NSW is likely to receive significantly less rainfall than inland parts, since the moisture will largely be rained out westward from the ranges. Mild northwesterly winds during this period will mean the snow fields are likely to be too warm for widespread snowfall until the weekend, when a colder air mass should trigger a bout of snowfall for most alpine resorts.
