Weather Bureau ramps up forecasting

Friday September 3, 2010 - 06:09 EST

The Bureau of Meteorology says new forecasting arrangements introduced yesterday will give people a longer and more accurate weather picture.

Predictions now will be up to seven days and broken into smaller regions.

The far south coast forecast will be in two sections - Batemans and Eden Coast predictions- with the dividing line passing through Montague Island, off Narooma.

The Bureau's John James says the Southern Tablelands forecast has also changed.

"Broadly split north of the ACT and south of the ACT so we've got the Southern Tablelands is now that northern part of the ACT which covers the Goulburn region and then the Snowy Mountain district covers to the southern part so that is sort of a very broad area," he said.
