Weather Bureau boss resigns

Tuesday July 15, 2008 - 16:40 EST

The director of the Bureau of Meteorology has resigned after five years in the role.

Howard Government appointee, Dr Geoff Love tendered his resignation to the Environment Minister Peter Garrett on the eve of the release of the Federal Government's green paper on an emissions trading scheme.

Dr Love was told he would have to reapply for his position, once his contract expired in August.

After 33 with the bureau, Dr Love has accepted an as yet undisclosed position overseas.

The Bureau of Meteorology has had just four directors over the past 40 years.
