WA's Goldfields receives welcome rain

WA's Goldfields receives welcome rain
Upper areas of Western Australia's Goldfields district received some unexpected July rain yesterday, with falls not seen in almost a decade. Moisture had been building with a deepening low pressure trough, bringing a few light showers about the Goldfields in the days leading to yesterday's rain. Lorna Glen accumulated 26mm yesterday, making it the heaviest daily July rain since 2005. Further west at Carnegie, 20.9mm of rain fell, making it the heaviest July rain since 2006. As the low pressure trough moves slowly east and a front pushes through tonight and again on Monday, light showers may continue to occur about the Goldfields until Tuesday. However, showers are not expected to be as heavy as yesterday's falls. From Wednesday, a high pressure ridge should clear any more showers until at least next weekend.
