Warm winds wash over VIC

Warm winds wash over VIC
Blustery conditions and warm temperatures brought a brief glimpse of spring in Victoria. At Melbourne airport this morning, winds reached 76km/h. At Port Phillip this morning, 80km/h was recorded. The strongest wind gust recorded as of 6pm today was in the Grampians at Mount William, which clocked a gust of 109 km/h. A Strong Wind Warning is still current for parts of VIC this evening. Winds are likely to remain gusty, easing in the west from overnight tonight. Gusts may reach 100 km/h at elevations over 700m, but are still a risk of reaching 90 km/h at lower elevations of the Central district. These gusty winds also brought a warm morning and a warm day to some places. For Melbourne, it was the warmest day this winter, reaching 19 degrees. At Combienbar it was the warmest August day since 2011, reaching 20 degrees which is seven degrees above-average for this time of year. In Mallacoota, it was the warmest August day in two years, recording 20 degrees, ten degrees warmer than it was on Monday. These warm and gusty northerlies are moving ahead of a low pressure trough, bringing a touch of typical spring weather. For some places, Saturday will still be quite warm. However behind the trough, the winds are lighter and onshore and the air significantly cooler, with the trademark mild days returning by Sunday.
